Background

More than ten years working in multinational companies, across three areas that turned out to matter for this job: administration, where quality control and process discipline are daily work; sales, where supplier relationships and product portfolios are picked apart; and marketing, where market research and consumer behaviour are the raw material.

For more than seven years she has led the technical analysis behind hundreds of appliance reviews, and built the editorial methodology that decides which products earn a place on a list — and which get cut.

• Kitchen appliances — Air fryers, coffee makers, blenders, microwaves, ranges and ovens.
• Laundry — Washers, dryers and combination units, including plug and circuit requirements.
• Home care — Vacuums, steam mops and floor care, where real-world durability decides everything.

What that work involves

• Reading a manufacturer spec sheet against the PDF manual and finding what the listing leaves out
• Turning official wattage into estimated energy use per cycle and per month
• Checking ENERGY STAR and EnergyGuide data for regulated categories
• Confirming that a listing's model code is the version actually sold in the US
• Mining low-star and recent reviews for the faults that only appear after months
