How we pick

Three commitments

• Editorial independence. No brand can pay for a position, a mention, or a kinder verdict. There is no price for it.
• The source decides, not the listing. Retail listings are marketing. Our numbers come from the manufacturer's own spec sheet and PDF manual.
• Zero contradictions. If two sources disagree about a product, we do not paper over it with a disclaimer. We resolve it or we replace the product.

How each guide is produced

1. Map the category. Identify the models that are genuinely available to US shoppers right now, and the buying intents worth separating (capacity, budget, brand, use case).
2. Read the official documentation. For every finalist: the live spec page and the PDF manual. Wattage, capacity, dimensions, clearances, plug and circuit requirements — all taken from there.
3. Read the buyers, with method. We sweep the low-star reviews and the most recent ones. One complaint is noise; the same complaint from six different buyers is a product fact.
4. Cross-check and cut. A product whose listed specs contradict the manufacturer's sheet is cut or the listing is swapped. A recurring fault with no workaround is grounds to cut.
5. Write, then verify. Every superlative on the page has to be reproducible by sorting a column of the comparison table. If it cannot be, it does not go on the page.
6. Revise as a family. Availability changes weekly, so guides are revised in groups rather than one at a time, and each page shows the date it was last revised.

What you will never find here

• Claims that we tested anything. We do not run a lab. We do documentary research and we say so.
• An invented score. We do not publish a rating of our own — no marks out of ten, no stars, no grade. A number nobody can check against a document or a column is a second source of truth, and two sources of truth eventually contradict each other.
• Prices. A price copied onto a page freezes the moment it is published and quietly goes stale. Instead each guide carries a “price tier in this list” column — entry, mid-range or premium — which is relative to that list and stays true.
• Products you cannot actually buy. A dead link is a wasted trip and a broken promise. Availability is confirmed before a product enters a list and re-checked when the page is revised.

Which source wins

When two sources disagree, this is the order:

1. The manufacturer's live spec sheet and PDF manual
2. Official programme data where it exists — ENERGY STAR certified data, the EnergyGuide label, Department of Energy test data
3. The retail listing
4. Verified buyer reviews, for real-world behaviour rather than specs

A derived number — energy use per cycle, for example — is published as a declared calculation with its formula shown, never as a measurement.

The order matters, and it is always the same: the editorial selection is made first, and the affiliate link is added afterwards to a product that was already chosen. Never the reverse.
